Four Goals in Second Half Lifts Rams over Bears

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's soccer team defeated St. Joseph's-Brooklyn today, 5-2, in a Skyline Conference matchup. The Rams improved to 5-3 overall, 2-2 in conference play, while the Bears dropped to 0-7-1, 0-3.

Farmingdale State senior midfielder Tobi Ojuade (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) opened the scoring in the 35th minute, scoring off a through pass from senior defender Gerard Farrell (Floral Park, N.Y.) for the 1-0 lead. St. Joe's evened the score with under two minutes remaining, as sophomore Gemar Lezeau (Jamaica, N.Y.) connected on a ball from Michael Ortiz (Bushwick, N.Y.).

In the second half, freshman midfielder Kenneth Garcia (Elmhurst, N.Y.) caused a turnover and scored from 15 yards out to give SJC-Brooklyn the 2-1 lead. With 14:21 left in regulation, the Rams were awarded a penalty kick and sophomore Carlos Rivera (Huntington Station, N.Y.) made the attempt for the tie score, 2-2.

Farrell put Farmingdale State ahead with the eventual game-winner, a breakaway goal in the 80th minute off a through pass from Luciano Staffa (Buenos Aires, Argentina). Rivera added his second tally of the day with four minutes on the clock for a 4-2 lead, while Staffa scored one more for the Rams with 23 seconds remaining.

The Rams will now host Maritime College on Tuesday, October 3rd at 7:00 p.m.
