Farmingdale State - 7, St. Joseph's-Brooklyn - 1
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's soccer team defeated conference competitor St. Joseph's-Brooklyn today, 7-1. Today was senior day for the Rams as this was their final home regular season game. Senior's Anthony Leonick (Levittown, N.Y.), Michael Vultaggio (Massapequa, N.Y.), Samuele Riva (Cadrezzate, Italy), J.T. Famularo (Levittown, N.Y.) and Victor Romero (Bay Shore, N.Y.) were all honored prior to kickoff.
The Rams (8-8-1, 5-3-1) scored all seven of their goals in the first half. Sophomore John Kender (Farmingdale, N.Y.) opened the scoring in the 6th minute when he went on a breakaway down the side of the field for an unassisted goal.
Fittingly, the senior's did their part in the victory. The second goal of the game came just over a minute later when Romero was able to split the defense off of a feed from Famularo to increase the advantage to 2-0.
The Rams used goals from midfielder's Richard Mastrangelo III (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and Flynn Shanahan (Valley Stream, N.Y.) in the 8th and 11th minutes, respectively, to go ahead 4-0. In the 15th minute, another goal from Romero, assisted by Famularo, made the score 5-0. James Barrett (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Sebastian Ramirez (Central Islip, N.Y.) closed out the first half with goals to give Farmingdale State a 7-0 halftime advantage.
Famularo tallied three assists while Romero notched two goals in the first half on senior day.
The scoring in the second was minimal compared to the first. Beka Goduadze (Tbilisi, Georgia) scored the only goal for the Bears (0-13-2, 0-9-1) and Farmingdale State was kept scoreless as they earned the 7-1 victory.
During halftime, Coach Schimpf presented President Dr. Hubert Keen and his wife with a jersey and flowers to celebrate his tenure at Farmingdale State College as he will be retiring in the summer of 2016. Dr. Keen and his wife Sally have and continue to be great fans and supporters of the athletic department. Thank you for your ongoing support!
