Riva Leads Rams Past Old Westbury

Old Westbury, N.Y. - Freshman Samuele Riva (Cadrezzate, Italy) scored both of Farmingdale State's goals leading the Rams to a 2-1 victory at conference opponent Old Westbury. The men's soccer team improved to 6-8-1 overall and 3-2-1 in Skyline play, while the Panthers fell to 7-6, 2-3.

Only 3:40 into the game, Old Westbury jumped out to a 1-0 lead after sophomore forward Adan Cruz-Velasquez (Huntington, N.Y.) scored a breakaway goal off the feed from John Ramos (Garden City, N.Y.).

Riva answered for Farmingdale State in the 20th minute with an unassisted goal to even the score at 1-1. The Rams held a 19-3 shot and 5-1 corner kick advantage in the first half.

With 12:04 remaining, Riva connected on the game-winning goal as he scored on a header off the pass by Anthony Leonick (Levittown, N.Y.).

Freshman goalkeeper Jonathan Baumer (Ridge, N.Y.) had four saves for the Rams, while freshman Kelvin Rivera (Central Islip, N.Y.) collected 14 saves in the loss.

Farmingdale State next will head to Sage for a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, October 18th at 6:00 p.m.
