
Farmingdale State - 2, College of Mount Saint Vincent - 1 F/OT
Farmingdale, N.Y. - In the rain and wind this afternoon, the Farmingdale State men's soccer team earned a 2-1 overtime victory over The College of Mount Saint Vincent.
The Rams (4-8, 1-2) scored the game's opening goal in the 30th minute as junior midfielder Victor Romero (Bay Shore, N.Y.) connected from 25 yards out. The Dolphins (4-4-1, 1-0-1) were held to only two shots on goal in the first half.
Only 2:58 after the halftime break, Mount Saint Vincent tied the game at 1-1 after freshman midfielder Jamie Salazar (Long Beach, Calif.) dribbled around the goalkeeper and tallied the goal.
Freshman forward Samuele Riva (Cadrezzate, Italy) nearly put the Rams ahead in the 72nd minute but sophomore goalkeeper David Melchor (Los Angeles, Calif.) made the save to keep the game tied.
Neither team was able to break the 1-1 tie over the final minutes of regulation. Mount Saint Vincent held a 7-5 shot advantage in the second half.
Only 1:24 into overtime, junior forward James Curley (Clifton Park, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal for Farmingdale State after being set up in front by freshman John Kender (Farmingdale, N.Y.).
Freshman goalkeeper Robert Tucker (Oceanside, N.Y.) recorded six saves for Farmingdale State, while Melchor stopped eight shots for the Dolphins.
The Rams next will travel to Maritime for a conference game on Thursday, October 9th at 7:30 p.m.
