Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's soccer team fell 3-1 today against New Paltz State (1-1) at the Vassar Invitational. The Rams drop to 1-2 overall and will face host Vassar College tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. Live links for stats and video are available on our soccer schedule.
The Hawks held a 2-0 advantage at the half after scores from sophomore forward Sam Wasser (Melville, N.Y.) and freshman forward Gino Scardino (West Hempstead, N.Y.). Wasser scored in the 18th minute off a pass from senior midfielder Stephen Browne (Carle Place, N.Y.). Scardino's goal came at 38:24 when freshman midfielder Danny Sloan (Hicksville, N.Y.) played a ball over the top for Scardino's shot that beat the keeper on the left side.
In the second half, Scardino made it 3-0 in the 66th minute off a crossed ball from senior defender Brian Spina (Delmar, N.Y.). Farmingdale State got on the board nine seconds later when junior forward James Curley (Clifton Park, N.Y.) sent a shot to the right corner. The assist came from junior midfielder J.T. Famularo (Levittown, N.Y.).
Freshman goalkeeper Robert Tucker (Oceanside, N.Y.) made five saves in defeat for the Rams.
