Rams End in Scoreless Tie on Senior Day

Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Farmingdale State men's soccer team tied 0-0 in double overtime to The Sage Colleges today in a Skyline Conference game in Farmingdale, N.Y. Today marked the final regular-season home game for five seniors, midfielder Renato Ipince (Lima, Peru), midfielder Matt Kirby (West Islip, N.Y.), defender Joe Lipsky (Plainview, N.Y.), forward John Popovic (Baldwin, N.Y.) and goalkeeper Angelo Viteritti (Huntington, N.Y.).

In the first half, both teams took four shots each but it would be scoreless at the break. In the second, Sage held the edge in shots 5-2 and a 5-3 advantage on corners, but the 90-minutes of regulation would be 0-0 and force overtime.

In the second overtime, Farmingdale State had the only scoring chances. A shot by Kirby with 3:31 on the clock, which headed towards the right post was saved by sophomore goalkeeper TJ Zehner (Beacon, N.Y.). With less than 10 seconds to play, the Rams final shot from sophomore midfielder J.T. Famularo (Levittown, N.Y.) was saved by Zehner to secure the tie.

Zehner finished with six saves, while Viteritti finished with two saves.

The Rams will close out the regular-season with an away game at the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday, October 29th at 8:30 p.m. at Tibbetts Brook Park (355 Midland Ave. in Yonkers, N.Y.).
