Sarmiento Leads Rams Past St. Joe's

Patchogue, N.Y. - Sophomore midfielder Diego Sarmiento (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored three goals to lead Farmingdale State to a 4-2 conference victory at St. Joseph's College last night. The Rams improved to 8-6-1 overall and 4-2-1 in Skyline play, while the Golden Eagles fell to 3-12-3, 2-3-2.

In the 6th minute, junior midfielder Chris Hall (Mastic, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal to give St. Joe's an early 1-0 lead. Sarmiento tied the game late in the first half as he recorded an unassisted score for Farmingdale State. The Rams held an 8-7 shot advantage at the break.

Only 1:33 after halftime, Sarmiento tallied his second goal of the game to put Farmingdale State ahead, 2-1. In the 61st minute of action, Sarmiento scored his third and final goal of the game after beating a defender for an open look. The Golden Eagles cut the deficit to 3-2 with 16:07 remaining, before sophomore midfielder J.T. Famularo (Levittown, N.Y.) responded less than a minute later as the Rams earned the 4-2 victory.

Senior goalkeeper Angelo Viteritti (Huntington, N.Y.) stopped eight shots in the win.

Farmingdale State next will host Sage for senior day on Saturday, October 26th at 1:00 p.m.
