Carey Shoots for the Win over Rams

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's soccer team suffered a tough 1-0 loss to Old Westbury today in Skyline Conference action in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams fall to 4-11 overall, 3-5 in the conference, while the Panthers improve to 5-10-1, 4-3-1 in Skyline play.

The game saw a scoreless first half, as Farmingdale State led 9-7 in shots and 3-0 in corner kick opportunities, but Old Westbury controlled the second with a 9-5 shot advantage.

With 22 minutes remaining in the second half, Panthers sophomore midfielder Scott Carey (Centereach, N.Y.) took a long free kick from 45 yards out and the ball sailed just over a leaping goaltenders reach and into the net for the eventual game-winner.

Junior goalkeeper Pablo Diaz (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) made four saves for the win, while Rams freshman goalkeeper Michael Valverde (Huntington, N.Y.) made six saves in defeat.

Farmingdale State will now host Skyline opponent Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday, October 22nd for the final regular-season home game and Senior Day at 1:00 p.m.
