Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's soccer team fell, 1-0, against non-conference opponent UMass-Boston this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams now stand at 2-2 on the season, while the Beacons are a perfect 2-0.
Freshman midfielder Douglas Silviera (Revere, Mass.) scored the eventual game-winning goal for UMass-Boston as he scored unassisted from 20 yards out 34:04 into the contest. The Beacons held a 14-1 shot advantage in the first half.
Freshman midfielder Alemao Menchaca (Chelsea, Mass.) had a scoring opportunity in the 72nd minute for UMass-Boston, as he broke free in front of the net but freshman goalkeeper Matthew Ward (Farmingdale, N.Y.) made the save to keep the game at 1-0. The Rams had a chance to tie the game with 34 seconds remaining but sophomore Nick Herrara's (Massapequa, N.Y.) shot was saved.
Ward recorded seven saves in defeat, while junior goalkeeper Brycen Dowd (Mansfield, Mass.) made four saves in the win for the Beacons.
Farmingdale State next will travel to Merchant Marine for a non-conference game on Wednesday, September 14th at 6:00 p.m.
