Balzer Nets Golden Goal in Double OT

Brooklyn, N.Y. - Senior forward Tyler Balzer (Huntington, N.Y.) notched the golden goal in double overtime to give Farmingdale State a 1-0 victory over Brooklyn College (0-1) on Wednesday night in a game played at Kingsborough Community College. The Rams improved to 1-1 overall with the win.

Balzer found the back of the net in the 103rd minute, after penetrating the Bulldogs defense, which allowed the forward to get past the diving keeper.

The first half set the tone for the rest of the game, which featured a physical match throughout, as each team was whistled for seven fouls apiece. In total, there were 28 fouls committed, to go along with eight yellow cards.

Freshman goalkeeper Michael Valverde (Elwood, N.Y.) earned the shutout for Farmingdale State,  posting 10 saves on the day. Brooklyn's sophomore goalkeeper Stamatis Boundouris (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded six saves in the loss.

The Rams will open their Skyline Conference schedule next, against Yeshiva University, on Thursday, September 8th at 4:00 p.m. The game will be played at Purchase College.
