
Mariners Edge Rams in Non-Conference Game

The Farmingdale State men's soccer team fell to the visiting U.S. Merchant Marine Academy today, 1-0, in a non-conference matchup in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams now stand at 1-6, while the Mariners remain undefeated at 4-0-1.
In a scoreless first half, Farmingdale was outshot 7-1 with two saves by junior goalkeeper Ricky Meschkow (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview-Old Bethpage). The second half featured 11 shots by the Mariners and four from the Rams, with the game-winner inching over the line at 64:41. The goal was awarded to Merchant Marine sophomore forward Cody Kessler (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central), assisted by sophomore defender Kurt Olsen (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day).
Meschkow left the game in the second half due to an injury, but made six saves in defeat, while the Mariners' Gary Poulin (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) made two saves for the win. Senior goalkeeper Ray Levan (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) made two saves in his twenty minutes played for Farmingdale.
The Rams will play in their first conference game this weekend at Bard College on Saturday, September 18th at 1:00 p.m.
