Mathew is a 2005 graduate of East Islip High School, where he was named All-Conference in his senior season. He was named "Player of the Year" and "Player to Watch" by Newsday. He is the son of Donald and Angela Arthurs.

Senior year...Played in 17 games, starting 16. Arthurs received First Team All-Skyline honors as he was tied for a team-high three goals and had one game-winning score. From his midfield position, Arthurs controlled the Skyline's top ranked defense and helped Farmingdale State finish fourth in the conference with 19 goals in 10 Skyline games.

Junior year..Started all 20 games and recorded one assist from his defensive position. Helped Farmingdale finish 4th in the Skyline with a 1.38 goals against average and 2nd with a 0.49 GAA in conference games. Named First Team All-Skyline Conference and was named to the ECAC Division III Metro All-Star Team.

Sophomore year...Played in 21 games, scored one goal and had three assists. Named First Team All-Conferenece after anchoring a defense that held opponents to 1.33 goals per game (a new school record).

Freshman year...Played in 19 games, scoring one goal. Helped the Rams finish 10-10 overall, 6-2 in the Skyline Conference.
