Men's Soccer Receives Four All-Conference Selections
- Volante, Arthurs and Paul named First Team, Gubbins receives Second Team honors
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's
soccer team had four players named to the All-Skyline Conference
Team. Senior midfielder Frank Volante (Massapequa Park, N.Y.),
junior defender Mat Arthurs (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) and sophomore
forward Ryan Paul (Sayville, N.Y.) were named First Team
All-Conference, while senior goalkeeper Patrick Gubbins (East
Patchogue, N.Y.) received Second Team honors.
Volante, a senior captain and four-year starter, started every
game for the Rams this season. Volante controls the midfield and is
the key to Farmingdale's transition. He scored three goals and had
one assist this year.
Arthurs, a junior captain, anchored a defense that led the conference with seven shutouts in 16 games played. Arthurs helped Farmingdale finish 4th in the Skyline with a 1.38 goals against average and 2nd with a 0.49 GAA in conference games.
Paul was 2nd in the Skyline and led Farmingdale with 14 goals
scored this season. Paul is ranked 10th in the nation with a 1.00
goal per game average and 30th nationally with a 2.00 point per
game average. In conference games, Paul was 2nd in the Skyline with
10 goals scored, had 20 points which ranks 2nd and was 1st with
four game-winning goals.
Gubbins, a senior captain, had 81 saves in 14 games played this
season, holding a .810 save percentage. Gubbins allowed only four
goals in eight conference games with a 0.54 goals against average.
He had four shutouts this year and ranked 2nd in the Skyline with a
.902 save percentage in conference games.
