Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's soccer team dropped an overtime thriller, 2-1, today against visiting Skyline opponent Old Westbury (5-4, 1-0). The Rams fall to 2-4-1 overall, 1-1 in the conference with the loss.

After a scoreless first half, Farmingdale State senior goalkeeper Patrick Gubbins (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport) came out on an Old Westbury breakaway and made a diving save to keep the shutout alive.

The Rams took the 1-0 lead in the 78th minute of play with an unassisted goal from freshman midfielder Joe Brantmeyer (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches). Brantmeyer broke through the Panther defense and stole the rebound off his first shot, before sending home a shot from the left side.

Old Westbury broke the shutout two minutes later as senior midfielder Fabian Santibanez (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Oyster Bay) made a cross in front from the left side to freshman forward Donny Alerte (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker) for the tally and a 1-1 score.

The game would go into overtime with seven saves by both Gubbins and the Panthers junior goalkeeper Darian Bryan (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial).

With 50 seconds left to play in the first overtime, senior midfielder Edwin Mejia (Uniondale, N.Y./Uniondale) sent a corner kick into traffic. Senior midfielder Conor McKeon (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Holy Cross) tipped a ball over to Alerte for the game-winner.

The Rams will now host Bard College in another Skyline game on Saturday, September 26th at 1:00 p.m.
