Kings Point, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's soccer team fell 4-1 at Merchant Marine Academy yesterday in Kings Point, N.Y. The Rams now stand at 2-3 for the season, while the Mariners improved to 5-1 overall.

Senior midfielder Rusty Denson (Mount Juliet, Tenn./Father Ryan) scored the games opening goal 22 minutes into the contest, giving Merchant Marine the early 1-0 advantage. The Rams would answer seven minutes later on a penalty kick goal from senior midfielder Frank Volante (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Farmingdale). The teams would head into the locker room with the game knotted at one.

Sophomore midfielder Casey Desiderio (Media, Penn./Penncrest) scored on a rebound off the Farmingdale goalkeeper to put the Mariners on top 2-1. Senior midfielder Clint Foster (Mount Pleasant, Tex./Mount Pleasant) would add two more goals for the Merchant Marine Academy, capping off the 4-1 victory.

Senior goalkeeper Patrick Gubbins (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport) recorded nine saves in the defeat, while freshman goalie Gary Poulin (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) had two saves for the Mariners.

Farmingdale will host Brockport State on Saturday, September 19th at noon.
