
Rams Defeat Lehman for Opening Day Victory
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's
soccer team (1-0) opened the 2009 season today with a 10-1 victory
over Lehman College (0-1). Rams junior forward Ryan Paul (Sayville,
N.Y./Sayville) scored a game-high three goals, while sophomore
forward Nick Pancotto (Islip, N.Y./Islip) and senior midfielder
Frank Volante (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Farmingdale) added two goals
each.
Farmingdale scored the first four goals, before Lehman got on the board 21 minutes into the game with a goal from freshman midfielder Ovalo De Paula (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon). The Rams went into the break holding a 7-1 lead.
In the second half, Farmingdale added three more goals and controlled the pace of the game, holding the Lightning scoreless.
Senior goalkeeper Patrick Gubbins (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport) is awarded his first win of the year, allowing only one goal in 81 minutes of play.
Freshman goalkeeper Marcus Coto-Batres (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Rye Neck) made five saves in the games final 60 minutes of action for Lehman.
Senior defender Marcos Cipra (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) and freshman defender Andrew Gersitz (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) each had two assists for the day.
The Rams will now host Oneonta State on Saturday, September 5th at 11:00 a.m.
