Men’s Soccer Receives Five All-Conference Selections


Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Farmingdale State men’s soccer team had five players named to the Skyline All-Conference Team. Junior goalkeeper Patrick Gubbins (East Patchogue, N.Y.), junior defender Mathew Arthurs (East Islip, N.Y.), senior midfielder Thomas Mueller (Babylon, N.Y.) and sophomore forward Ryan Paul (Sayville, N.Y.) were named First Team, while junior midfielder Marcos Cipra (Long Beach, N.Y.) received Second Team honors.

Gubbins, the starting goalkeeper for the Rams, finished the regular season with a career low and conference leading 1.07 goals against average and 0.37 GAA in Skyline play. He started all 21 games and tied his career high from last season with seven shutouts. Gubbins held a .813 save percentage in all games and a .919 save percentage in conference play.

Arthurs, a junior captain, led the defense in holding opponents to 1.33 goals per game and 24 goals allowed on the season, both new school records. The Rams defense allowed only four goals scored and 18 corner kicks in conference play.

Mueller, a senior captain, scored four goals and had eight points on the season from his midfield position. Throughout his four-year career and 69 games played he scored 14 goals and had five assists.

Paul ranked 9th in the nation in scoring, led the conference with 45 points and 20 goals scored. He had five game-winners, was named Skyline player of the week three times and once was seen on the Skyline player of the week honor roll.

Cipra had four goals and two assists for a total of ten points this season. He had two game-winners and was part of the midfield unit that held opponents to a school record low goals against average.
