
Rams Advance to Championship Game

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The top-seeded Farmingdale
State men's soccer team defeated #5 Old Westbury, 2-0, in a Skyline
Semfinal game today in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams advance to the
Skyline Championship for the first time in program history and will
host the game on Saturday, November 8th at 1:00 p.m.
Old Westbury received a red card in the 36th minute, forcing them to play a man down. The Rams took advantage of the man up opportunity and freshman Ryan Lang (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) scored with two minutes remaining in the first half. Lang's goal was assisted by sophomore Ryan Paul (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) and sophomore Alex Mendolia (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East).
In the second, junior Frank Volante (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) sent a free kick to freshman Ryan Standridge (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) in front for another Farmingdale State goal and a 2-0 lead.
Junior goalkeeper Patrick Gubbins (East Patchogue,
N.Y./Bellport) made two saves in the win for his seventh shutout of
the season, which ties his school record from 2007. Old Westbury
sophomore Darian Bryan (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) made seven
saves in defeat.
The Rams outshot Old Westbury 25-9 in the game.
Farmingdale State will host the winner of the #3 Mount Saint Mary / #2 St. Joseph's game, which is being played tonight at 6:00 p.m. at Patchogue-Medford High School.
