
Rams Defeat St. Joe's for First Place in Skyline
Farmingdale State - 1, St. Joseph's - 0
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's
soccer team defeated St. Joseph's College today, 1-0, to move into
first place in the Skyline Conference. With the win, the Rams
improve to 10-6-1, 7-1 in Skyline play, while St. Joe's falls to
8-8-2, 6-1-1 in the conference.
After a scoreless first half and a 7-5 shot advantage by St. Joseph's, Farmingdale State sophomore forward Ryan Paul (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) put home the eventual game-winner in the 65th minute of play. Paul had a breakaway and after his first shot was deflected by the goalie, he jumped on the rebound and put the ball in the net.
Overall, St. Joseph's outshot the Rams 18-15. Junior goalkeeper Patrick Gubbins (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport) posted a career-high 12 saves to record his fifth shutout of the year. Junior goalkeeper Mike Dougherty (Farmingville, N.Y./Connetquot) made nine saves in defeat.
The Rams will wrap up regular season play on Saturday, November
1st at Bard College for a 2:00 p.m. conference game. The Skyline
Playoff seedings will be announced on Sunday night, with
Quarterfinal rounds to be played on Tuesday, November 4th.
