Hoboken, NJ - The Farmingdale State men's and women's soccer teams both matched up against Stevens on Wednesday night, November 1st, for semifinal soccer games in Hoboken, NJ. The men's team fell to Stevens 7-0 and the women's team fell 3-0. Both of our teams will now await a bid to the ECAC tournament which will be announced next week.
The men's game kicked off at 5:00pm. Freshman forward Todd Sheridan (Egg Harbor, NJ) opened the scoring for Stevens in the 19th minute off a long breakaway pass from senior defender Brandon Schaefer (Albuquerque, NM). Stevens scored one more in the first for a 2-0 lead at halftime, before Sheridan netted three more for the Ducks in the second half as they ran to a 7-0 victory. Freshman goalkeeper Joseph Caccavale (West Islip, NY/West Islip) made seven saves in defeat in his first collegiate post-season game for Farmingdale. Stevens now moves ahead to the Skyline Finals for a chance at an automatic NCAA bid. The Ducks host #2-seed Merchant Marine on Saturday, November 4th at 7:00pm.
In the women's game which began last night at 8:00pm, the Rams matched up well to the top-seeded Stevens squad with a scoreless game until the 43rd minute of play. Junior forward Gina Crifasi (Staten Island, NY) took a shot in front of the net which was initially stopped by freshman goalkeeper Kimberly Sontag (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook), but freshman midfielder Leslie Kallberg (Mission Viejo, CA) jumped on the rebound for the score to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead going into the half. Farmingdale kept in the game after only trailing 7-4 in shots through the first, but Stevens added two more goals in the second half to make it a 3-0 victory and move onto the Finals for the 4th year in a row. Freshman midfielder Amanda Biondi (West Islip, NY/West Islip) controlled the middle for the Rams the entire game and finished with a team-leading four shots, while Sontag finished with seven saves in defeat. The Skyline finals will be played against #2 Manhattanville on Saturday, November 4th at 1:00pm in Hoboken, NJ.
