Old Westbury, NY - A late hat trick in the final 15 minutes of play by junior forward Andrew Whilby (St. Albans, NY/Wolmers Boys School) gave Farmingdale a 3-0 victory over Old Westbury (3-9-2, 0-4-2) on Monday afternoon in Old Westbury, NY. The Rams improved to 7-6-2 overall and 4-3-1 in the Skyline with the win.
Old Westbury controlled the first half with a 9-4 shot differential and the game was scoreless until the 76th minute of play before the Rams opened the scoring gates and took a 14-8 shot advantage in the second.
Senior midfielder Carlos Proano (Brentwood, NY/Brentwood) sent a cross into the six yard box which was put away by Whilby for the 1-0 lead. One minute later, Whilby scored his second goal of the day on a penalty kick for the 2-0 cushion with 13 minutes left to play. He added his third and final goal of the day as time was running out when he slipped past the Panthers defense and beat the goalie one-on-one to complete the hat trick and give Farmingdale the winning decision.
Rams freshman goalkeeper Joseph Caccavale (West Islip, NY/West Islip) made three saves for his fourth victory and third shutout of the season.
Farmingdale has just three games remaining in regular season play and will travel to Oneonta on Friday, October 20th for a non-conference game at 4:00pm.
