Farmingdale, NY – Farmingdale men's soccer (6-5-2, 3-2-1 Skyline) picked up a 3-0 win today in a Skyline Conference match-up against Maritime College (3-6-1, 2-3-1 Skyline) in Farmingdale, NY. Before the game, the two teams were tied for third place in the Skyline standings. The win put the Rams in second place, behind Merchant Marine.
Farmingdale went up 1-0 on an own goal by the Privateers 17:19 into the first half. Freshman defender Marcos Cipra (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach) knocked in a rebound with 20 seconds remaining after junior forward Andrew Whilby (St. Albans, NY/Wolmer's Boys School) took a free-kick shot that hit the post. Senior midfielder Carlos Proano (Brentwood, NY/Brentwood) and Whilby were credited with the assists.
Early in the second half, the Rams passed the ball through Maritime's defense to add a third goal. Whilby was credited with the goal at 53:42 while Bryant Rodiguez (Elmont, NY/Sewanhaka) and Frank Volante (Massapequa Park, NY/Farmingdale) provided the scoring opportunity.
The Privateers' junior goalkeeper Matt Kavanaugh (Penfield, NY/Penfield) made 10 saves on 30 shots faced. Farmingdale's freshman goalkeeper Patrick Gubbins (East Patchogue, NY/Bellport) only had to make 2 saves for the win.
The Rams will face Centenary College in a Skyline Conference game in Hackettstown, N.J. on Sunday, October 15th at 1:00pm. The game was postponed earlier in the season due to inclement weather.
