NEWARK, NJ � Rutgers-Newark and Farmingdale State share the 2006 Scarlet Raider Soccer Classic title after battling to a 1-1 tie following two overtimes in the Championship game.

Tournament most outstanding player from Farmingdale State, junior forward Andrew Whilby (St. Albans, NY/Wolmers Boys School), scored for the Rams (1-1-1) on a crossing pass into the box from junior midfielder Bryan Spencer (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) just 49 seconds into the contest.

Rutgers-Newark walk-on freshman Arman Zamanian (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Indian Hills HS) headed in a lob by freshman forward Luis Valle (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) with 2:42 left in the opening period to knot the contest.

Sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Johnson (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) made five saves for the Raiders (1-2-1) while freshman goalkeeper Joseph Caccavale (West Islip, NY/West Islip) posted three saves for Farmingdale. Each team launched a dozen shots.

The Rams will open up their conference schedule against Merchant Marine this Wednesday, September 13th in their first home contest at 4:30 pm.
