Men's Soccer End of Season Report

The Farmingdale State 2004 Men’s Soccer team had a down year under second year head coach Chuck Schimpf. Despite the 2-15-1 record, a very young Rams team showed enough promise to be optomistic for the future.
Individually, the team finished the year with a number of accomplishments. Starting goalkeeper Patric Santiago, a tri-captain, was ranked 15th in the nation among Division III goalies with an average of eight saves per game. In the Rams season opening tournament, freshman midfielder Bryant Rodriguez and senior defender Trevor Thompson were named to the Swarthmore College Garnet Classic All-Tournament team. Thompson, the teams lone senior and tri-captain, will be tough to replace after becoming an integral part of the defense during his two-year tenure at Farmingdale. Junior tri-captain Brett Southard left his goalie position and became a starting forward and second leading scorer for the Rams. Junior Carlos Proano returns next season after leading the team with seven points from his midfield position. The Rams will look to bounce back next fall, when they will return 18 of 19 players along with many talented recruits.

Farmingdale Starting Goaltenders Ranked Nationally in Saves Per Game

The Men's and Women's Soccer starting goalkeepers both finished the season ranked nationally in saves per game. Junior goalies Pam Baione (Farmingdale, NY) and Patric Santiago (Baldwin, NY) finished with a 14th and 15th ranking, respectively, among all Division III NCAA Soccer Goalies.
Pam finished the year with a 3.49 Goals Against Average and a .779 save percentage. She totaled 204 saves and averaged 12 saves per game. Patric finished the 2004 season with an average of 8 saves per game and a .720 save percentage. His final Goals Against Average was 3.14.

Farmingdale Falls to Fifth Ranked Stevens Institute

The Rams fell to 2-15-1 overall, 1-7-1 Skyline as Stevens Institute (18-1-1, 9-0-0 Skyline) scored two goals in each half for the 4-0 conference victory. Stevens Institute is ranked fifth overall in the country for Division III men’s soccer. Farmingdale played well defensively and held Stevens scoreless until the 35 minute mark when Craig Moquin (Breinigsville, PA) scored two quick goals to take the Ducks into halftime with a 2-0 lead. In the second half, Steven’s Brian Marks (Yardley, PA) knocked in a pass from Josh Ottinger (Schnecksville, PA) at 69:26. Ottinger would then add a goal himself with 14 minutes remaining in the game.
Freshman Michael DiMotta (Coram, NY) got his first starting nod in goal for the Rams against Stevens’ fierce offensive line. He finished the game with 9 saves after facing 41 shots total and 13 shots on goal.

New Jersey City University Defeats Farmingdale 3-0

Farmingdale State (2-14-1) lost to NJCU (11-7) in todays non-conference men’s soccer game. NJCU’s Adrian Ruiz (Fairview, NJ) finished with two goals, as he led the Knights to a 3-0 win. Ruiz’s first goal came at 25:35 off a rebounded save and his second on a penalty kick with one second remaining in the game. The Knights’ Patrick Thomas (Roselle, NJ) also chipped in on the scoreboard with an assist from John Jensen (Monroe, NJ) in the second half. NJCU goalie Baba Guisse (Jersey City, NJ) made 3 saves for the shutout.
Patric Santiago (Baldwin, NY) finished with 10 saves for the Rams. Farmingdale will return to action for their last game of the season on Saturday, October 30th at Stevens Institute at 4:00pm.

Rams Shut Down by SUNY New Paltz

Farmingdale fell to 2-13-1 overall as they were shutout by SUNY New Paltz (9-9) 3-0. New Paltz opened up the scoring in the 19th minute as Brian Siergiej (Oceanside, NY) rifled a shot into the upper right corner for the 1-0 lead. Chris Daly (Washingtonville, NY) knocked in his own rebound at 36:08 for the Hawks' second goal, while Joe Fabian (Selden, NY) would score the third and final goal of the game in the second half.
Patric Santiago (Baldwin, NY) tallied 9 saves in net for the Rams.
Farmingdale will return to action on Wednesday, October 27th for their last home game of the season against New Jersey City University at 3:00pm.

Penalty Kick is Game-Winner for Ramapo

Just 7:19 into the men’s soccer game, Ramapo’s Josh Taylor (Hackensack, NJ) scored on a penalty kick to put the Roadrunners ahead 1-0. The goal proved to be the game-winner for Ramapo as they went on to score five more in the second half. Farmingdale was outplayed by the Roadrunners being outshot 27-2. Sophomore keeper Matt Mazza (Woodbridge, NY) made 1 save in the shutout.
Rams goalie Patric Santiago (Baldwin, NY) finished with 10 saves.
Farmingale now has three games remaining this season. They will travel to New Paltz State for a game on Saturday, October 23rd at 1:00pm.

Rams Lose Conference Game to Old Westbury

Old Westbury defeated Farmingdale State today 1-0 in a Skyline Conference game. The Panthers jumped to an early lead off a goal by freshman Shawn Holland (Massapequa, NY) at the 15 minute mark. The Rams could not capitalize on any opportunities in front and fell to 2-11-1 Overall, 1-6-1 Skyline. This game gives Old Westbury two points towards the President’s Cup for the 2004-2005 academic year. The President’s Cup score is all tied up at 2-2.
The Rams face Ramapo College in a non-conference away game on Wednesday, October 20th at 3:00pm.

Southard Scores Game-Winner to Lead Rams Over Mount Saint Mary

The Rams improved to 2-9-1, 1-4-1 in the Skyline today as they defeated conference opponent Mount Saint Mary (2-9, 2-3 Skyline) 2-1. Farmingdale’s Carlos Proano (Bay Shore, NY) opened up the scoring at the 7:14 mark off a pass from teammate Andrew Carlucci (Floral Park, NY). The Blue Knights answered back 15 minutes later as Tom Puccio (Centereach, NY) evened the score 1-1, assisted by James Lau (New Milford, CT). The game-winner was scored at 34:23 by the Rams’ Brett Southard (Carmel, NY) after he beat the goalie to a loose ball in front.
Farmingdale will be back in action on Wednesday, October 13th at Manhattanville College for a 4:00pm Conference game.

Rams Lose to Mount Saint Vincent

Farmingdale fell to 1-8-1 after a 4-1 loss to Skyline opponent Mount Saint Vincent (6-4). Mount Saint Vincent’s Antonio Nittoli lit up the scoreboard with 3 goals for the Dolphins, while Chris MacDonald added one goal. The Dolphins’ goalkeeper Nicholas Sans-Castet finished with 4 saves.
Carlos Proano (Bay Shore, NY) scored the only goal for the Rams. Patric Santiago (Baldwin, NY) made 8 saves in goal for Farmingdale.
The Rams will travel to St. Joseph’s College on Thursday, October 7th for another conference game at 4:00pm.

Farmingdale Falls to Rutgers-Newark

Farmingdale (1-7-1) lost 3-0 in todays non-conference game against Rutgers-Newark (3-7). The Rams could not get the offense going and were outshot by Rutgers 22-5. Hassan Chahine (North Bergen, NJ) scored two goals for Rutgers and C.J. Huter (Fair Lawn, NJ) tallied one goal.
Patric Santiago (Baldwin, NY) finished with 7 saves for Farmingdale.
The Rams take on the College of Mount Saint Vincent in a Skyline Conference game on Tuesday, October 5th at 4:00pm.

Mondelli and Proano Lead Rams to First Victory

The Rams (1-6-1) picked up their first win of the season today against visiting NYCCT (2-1-1). Anthony Mondelli (Copiague, NY) scored the game-winner for Farmingdale at 15:25. Carlos Proano (Bay Shore, NY) added the final Rams goal at 52:29. The Farmingdale defense, led by senior Trevor Thompson (St. James, NY) and Thomas Florez (Deer Park, NY) held City Tech to 4 shots on goal. Patric Santiago (Baldwin, NY) made 4 saves in his first shutout of the year.
NYCCT goalie Mario Minto (Queens, NY) finished with 8 saves.
The Rams host Rutgers-Newark this Saturday, October 2nd in a double-header with the women’s team. The women’s game starts at Noon, while the men’s game is slated to begin at 2:30pm.

Rams Tie Maritime

The Rams (0-5-1) today tied conference opponent Maritime College (1-3-1) by a score of 1-1. Maritime’s Nilton Ramirez (Queens, NY) opened the scoring at the 57 minute mark of the second half. Farmingdale evened up the game as Bryant Rodriguez (Elmont, NY) scored on a penalty kick with 17 minutes remaining. Both teams had numerous chances in overtime to capture their first conference win. Patric Santiago (Baldwin, NY) finished with 4 saves for Farmingdale, while Maritimes Matt Kavanaugh (Penfield, NY) made 10 stops.
The Rams travel to Centenary College for a conference game on Saturday at 3:00pm. Farmingdale's women's team takes on Centenary at 1:00pm as part of the doubleheader.

Rams Drop Conference Opener to King’s Point

Farmingdale (0-5, 0-1 Skyline) opened up their conference schedule by losing to King’s Point (6-0, 2-0 Skyline) by a score of 6-1. King’s Point took control early scoring two goals in the first 15 minutes of the game. The Mariners led 4-0 at the half as Kyle Flynn (Poughquag, NY) and Everet Lindholm (Covington, LA) tallied the first 3 goals. Joe Castro (Oldsmar, FL) added another in the second for the commanding lead.
Farmingdale’s Bryant Rodriguez (Elmont, NY) scored on a penalty kick to avoid the shutout. Rams goalie Patric Santiago (Baldwin, NY) stopped 9 shots, who were outchanced 23-8 for the game. Farmingdale’s next game is home on Wednesday, September 22nd against conference opponent Maritime College at 4:00pm.

Rams Lose to Staten Island

The Rams lost to visiting College of Staten Island 3-1 in a non-conference game. Farmingdale fell to 0-3 this season while Staten Island improved to 1-2. Staten Island goals were scored by Robert Wilkes (Staten Island, NY) and Aldo Yubini – 2 (San Pedro). Wilkes scored on a penalty kick in the first half.
Farmingdale’s goal was scored by Tansu Tahinciaglu (Syosset, NY) off a pass from Carlos Proano (Bay Shore, NY).
The Rams travel to York College on Monday, Sept. 13th for a game at 4pm.

Men Start Off at Swarthmore Invitational, Thompson and Rodriguez All-Tourney

Farmingdale Senior Trevor Thompson (St. James, NY) and Freshman Bryant Rodriguez (Elmont, NY) were named to the Swarthmore Invitational All-Tournament Team. Thompson is a starting defender and tri-captain, who has become a major factor in the team's backfield. Rodriguez is a talented midfielder, who will bring a mixture of offense and defense to this year's squad.
The Rams (0-2) had a rough start to the 2004 season as they fell to Swarthmore (3-0) and Widener (1-1) in their season opening tournament in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. The Rams were defeated by Swarthmore College in the first game, 9-0. Against Widener in the consolation game, they suffered a 5-0 loss. Farmingdale's Patric Santiago (Baldwin, NY) and Brett Southard (Carmel, NY) each played a game in goal. Santiago made 8 saves and Southard finished with 5 saves.
The Ram's next game is at home on September 11th against Staten Island at 2:30pm.
