Senior Captain Named to NCAA Division III All-Metro Region Team
Luke Gentile (Centereach, NY) was named to the Honorable Mention All-Metro Team for the 2003 season. Gentile was the leader in the backfield and finished third in team scoring. He was also selected First Team All-Skyline. Luke was a captain for the Rams and will be graduating in May.

Men’s Soccer End of Season Report
The Men’s Soccer team finished the 2003 season with a record of 6-12, finishing 7th place in the Skyline Conference. Chuck Schimpf finished his first season as Head Coach at Farmingdale and will return 13 players next year.
Leading scorer Jonathan Sfeir ended his sophomore season with 10 goals for the Rams, while Sophomore Tom Florez and Freshman Angelo Debono were tied for second in points with 9. The defense was led by Senior Luke Gentile who finished third on the team in goals scored and was selected First Team All-Skyline. Junior Trevor Thompson played solid in the backfield and will be looked upon for his leadership next year. Goalie Brett Southard had some impressive games in net, accumulating 5 shutouts this season and a 2.97 Goals Against Average.

Prior’s Hat Trick Helps New Jersey City Beat Farmingdale

Pedro Prior (Newark, NJ) scored three goals and added an assist as he led New Jersey City (13-5-2) over Farmingdale (5-13) in today’s non-conference game with a final score of 9-2. Chris Rosenthal (Kearny, NJ) and Mark Poplowski (Manville, NJ) notched 2 goals and an assist for the Gothic Knights, while Johan Gonzalez (Clifton, NJ) added 2 assists. Luke Gentile (Centereach, NY) netted Farmingdale’s first goal of the game at 26:26 to cut the lead to 3-1. Courtney McGregor (Irvington, NY) and Juan Vera (Harrison, NJ) both added a goal for the Knights, while Ryne Ludington (Rahway, NJ) and Renato Sanchez (Clifton, NJ) added an assist. Angelo Debono (Franklin Square, NY) added the final goal for the Rams off a cross from Eric Walters (Lindenhurst, NY) with 15 minutes left in the game.
New Jersey City took 23 shots on goal as Farmingdale’s Billie Binnie (Centereach, NY) had a busy day in net with 13 saves. New Jersey’s Baba Guisse got the win in net making only one save.

Farmingdale Wins Final Conference Game of the Season

Farmingdale State took today’s Skyline Conference game, improving their overall record to 5-12. Carlos Proano (Brentwood, NY) scored an unassisted goal in the first minute of play to give the Rams the game-winner over Mt. St. Vincent’s (3-8-2). Angelo Debono (Franklin Square, NY) scored at 48:42 to add an insurance goal in the Rams victory. The Rams took 11 shots on goal today, but had a tough time getting the ball past James Ferraro (Pomona, NY) as he made 9 saves in net for the Dolphins. Senior Defender’s Luke Gentile and Billie Woodward played in their last home game for the Rams today and will be greatly missed next season.

James Walkinshaw (Gainesville, VA) notched a hat trick, as well as the assist on the game-winning goal, to take the Violets past the Rams in this cold night game in upper Manhattan. NYU defeated the Rams 6-0, as the Rams were outshot by the Violets 26-3.
Jamie Perreira (Greenbelt, MD) netted 2 goals, scoring the game-winner after just 13 minutes of play. Ryan Haney (Federal Way, WA) also added a goal and an assist for the Violets, while Frank Skoch (Fayetteville, AR), Dana Boskoff (Great Neck, NY), and Elliot Marquis (Columbia, MD) each had an assist. Michael Bonacuso (East Willison, NY) and Adam Colunga (Glendale, AZ) shared the shutout win, with Bonacuso making the only save for the Violets. Rams goalie Brett Southard (Carmel, NY) came up big in net with 7 saves.
Farmingdale’s next contest will be at home on October 25th at 1:00 pm, when the Rams take on SUNY New Paltz.

Rams lose to first place Manhattanville in Men’s Soccer

Manhattanville College stayed undefeated in the Skyline Conference after beating Farmingdale 4-0 today in Men’s Soccer. Manhattanville forward Justin Sweeney (New York, NY) tallied both of the Valiants goals in the first half providing the visitors with a 2-0 halftime lead. Midfielder Scott Vieira (Staten Island, NY) came off the bench to score both of Manhattanville’s goals in the second half for the final margin. Senior Goalie AJ Kretschmer (Wading River, NY) made 6 saves to earn the shutout. Farmingdale Goalie Billie Binnie made 8 saves and was solid for the Rams in defeat. With the victory, Manhattanville improved to 10-5-1 overall, 7-0 in the Skyline Conference. Farmingdale fell to 5-9, 3-5 Skyline.

Today’s Skyline Conference game between Mt. St. Mary’s (4-10, 3-2 Skyline) and Farmingdale (5-8, 3-4 Skyline) was decided after 96 minutes of play.
Throughout 90 minutes of play the game was scoreless, with both teams unable to find the back of the net. But just 6 minutes into overtime, Mt. St. Mary’s Jurek Chamorro (Peru) passed the ball back to his defender, Jeff Van Etten (Monroe, NY), who drove a 25-yard shot past the Rams to take the overtime victory. Mt. St. Mary’s doubled the Rams 12 shots with 24. The Blue Knights’ Conor Smith (Ramsey, NJ) made 6 saves for the shutout win, and the Rams’ Brett Southard (Carmel, NY) turned away 8 shots.

Farmingdale was defeated 3-0 in tonight’s Skyline Conference game against King’s Point. The Mariners are currently in first place in the Skyline, undefeated with a 6-0 record. King’s Point scored the game-winner in the 25th minute of play by Marcial Alzugaray (Flushing, NY), assisted by Glen Peer (Oswego, NY). The Mariners leading scorer Kyle Flynn (Poughquag, NY) connected two minutes later to bring the Mariners up by 2, off an assist by Joe Meagher (Staten Island, NY). William Bach (Manchester, MD) scored off a free kick from Alzugaray with 13 minutes left to play in the game, to make it a final score of 3-0. The Men’s next game is @ Mt. St. Mary’s this Saturday at 1pm.

Today’s Skyline Conference game between St. Joseph’s and Farmingdale State ended with a score of 4-1.
Farmingdale’s Jonathan Sfeir (Huntington, NY) scored with ten minutes to go in the first half, off an assist from Tom Florez (Deer Park, NY). But St. Joe’s would tie it up 7 minutes later when Tim Trava (Patchogue, NY) scored his first of three goals. St. Joe’s Brian Moreira (Newfield, NY) netted the game-winner early in the 2nd half, and Trava scored the next two goals to put the game away.

The Rams picked up their 3rd Skyline Conference win today against the Privateers. Sophomore Jonathan Sfeir (Huntington, NY) had a hat trick and Eric Walters (Lindenhurst, NY) added two assists for Farmingdale State who are now 5-5, 3-1 Skyline Conference. Goalie Brett Southard (Carmel, NY) and the Rams defense shut down the Privateers offense, en route to their 4th shutout win of the season.

Farmingdale State today lost a Skyline Athletic Conference game 9-0 to 1st Place Stevens Institute of Technology. Farmingdale (4-5, 2-1) was able to hold Stevens Tech to 2 goals off 13 shots in the first half, but allowed 7 goals in the second half as Stevens Tech (6-1-2, 3-0) came away with the win. Brett Southard (Carmel, NY) played well in the net with 8 saves for Farmingdale State. Josh Ottinger (Schnecksville, PA) and Christian Pontier (Forked River, NJ) each scored 2 goals to lead Stevens Tech towards the win. Brian Marks (Yardley, PA), Chris McGreevy (Rochester Hills, MI), Nick Gkionis (Jackson, NJ), and Chris Morrow (New Milford, NJ) each added one goal for Stevens Tech. Sean Stevenson (Scottsdale, AZ) made 4 saves for the shutout.

Freshman Angelo Debono scored two goals and added one assist for the Rams in Farmingdale's 5-0 win over York College in the Finals of the Old Westbury Fall Classic. Defensemen Luke Gentile and Trevor Thompson anchored the defense for Farmingdale, which allowed only three shots on goal.

Rams Take Second Place at Home Soccer Invitational
The Farmingdale State Men's Soccer team took second place at the 2nd Annual Rams Invitational this past weekend. The Rams defeated Old Westbury 4-2 in the opening round in a game that was a Skyline Conference match and the first game of 2003 between the two schools for the President's Cup. In that game, Jonathan Sfeir, playing with 12 stitches above the eye, scored two goals in the second half after Tom Florez and Luke Gentile provided Farmingdale with a 2-2 tie at the half. Florez had a game-high 5 shots for the Rams. In the finals, the Rams lost a hard fought 3-1 game to FDU-Madison. Florez scored 8 minutes into the second half to cut FDU-Madison's lead to 2-1, but Tournament MVP Brian Gonser provided FDU with the final margin scoring with 11 minutes remaining. Farmingdale Goalie Brett Southard was outstanding in defeat, keeping the Rams in the game with 11 saves, including many of the spectacular variety.
