Newburgh, N.Y. - At the season opening Mount Saint Mary College Invitational held at The Powelton Club, the Farmingdale State men's golf team posted a team total of 304 and claimed a seven stroke victory.

Senior Chris Fischer (Mineola, N.Y.) earned medalist honors after shooting an 1-over par round of 71 for the Rams. Fischer's 71 is his second lowest score to date over his four-year career at Farmingdale State. Senior Jamie Jones (Uttoxeter, UK) was the runner up with a career-low round of 72, which was four shots better than his previous best of 76 (twice). Junior Brian Crawford (Stormville, N.Y.), in his first match at FSC, pitched in with an 9-over par 79.

Joe Tantillo of St. Joe's shot 73 and finished in third place individually.

Host school Mount Saint Mary College (311) finished in second and St. Joseph's-Long Island (324) took third place out of five teams.

The men's golf team next will travel to the Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort in Shawnee on Delaware, Pennsylvania for the 2018 Montgomery Cup hosted by Rosemont College.
