FSC Athletics Fall Update #7

New York, N.Y. - The Skyline Conference released the Fall weekly report #7 on Monday, October 23, including Player of the Week, Rookie of the Week, Honor Roll and Conference statistics for men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, women's tennis and women's volleyball.

 

Women's Volleyball Update (17-7, 7-0 Skyline) - Full Report

Last week FSC earned a 3-0 non-conference victory at Rutgers-Newark and followed with a pair of shutout wins in their home Skyline Conference tri-match against Merchant Marine and Maritime.

Sophomore setter Julia Hande (Islip, N.Y.) was named the Skyline Player of the Week for the second week in a row and third time this season. She led the team with 34 kills, a .342 attacking percentage and 30 digs. Against Rutgers-Newark, Hande tallied team-high's with eight kills and 18 digs and recorded a pair of double-doubles in the tri-match, including 10 kills and 16 assists versus Merchant Marine and 16 kills and 10 assists against Maritime.

On Thursday at Rutgers-Newark, senior middle-blocker Maia Cadle-Hinton (Huntington, N.Y.) broke the school record for total blocks in a game with 14. She currently ranks 12th in the Nation with 1.16 blocks per set.

This week the women's volleyball team closes out their regular season schedule with three conference matches. The Rams will host Mount Saint Vincent on Thursday for senior night @ 7:00 p.m. and travel to Baruch College for a tri-match on Sunday against Yeshiva @ 11:00 a.m. and follow with a match versus St. Joseph's-Brooklyn.

 

Women's Soccer Update (11-6-2, 8-0 Skyline) - Full Report

The Rams defeated #24 Western Connecticut State, 1-0, and Sarah Lawrence, 6-0, before dropping a non-conference game to #4 William Smith, 1-0, for a 2-1 week.

Sophomore goalkeeper Daniella Ford (Elmont, N.Y.) was tabbed Player of the Week for the second time this year after tallying two shutouts and allowing FSC's only goal of the week against the #4 Herons. She finished with seven saves, a 0.33 GAA and an .875 save percentage.

Farmingdale State will close out the regular season with a Skyline game at Mount Saint Mary College on Wednesday @ 5:00 p.m. The winner will earn the #1 seed and home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

 

Men's Soccer Update (7-7, 3-5 Skyline) - Full Report

Last week the Rams dropped a conference matchup at Mount Saint Vincent, 2-0, before splitting a pair of non-conference games versus New Rochelle (4-1 W) and #15 Amherst (5-0 L).

FSC forward's Luciano Staffa (Buenos Aires, Arg.) and Thomas Hamel (Farmingdale, N.Y.) each recorded two goals and an assist for a season-high five points on Thursday against New Rochelle. Staffa, who also produced the game-winner on Thursday, was named to the Player of the Week Honor Roll.

This week the Rams play their final game of the season when they travel to St. Joseph's-Long Island on Wednesday @ 7:00 p.m.

 

Cross Country Update

The cross country teams had the week off and next compete at the Skyline Conference Championship in Purchase, N.Y. on Sunday, October 29th. The women's team looks to capture the title for the second straight season.

 

Women's Tennis Update (7-8, 3-3 Skyline)

In their final match of the year, the women's tennis team defeated non-conference opponent William Paterson, 7-2.

Farmingdale State's Olivia Stauffer (Greenlawn, N.Y.), Carolann La Monica (Islip, N.Y.) and Celine Zollinger (Franklin Square, N.Y.) each recorded a doubles and singles win in the match.

FSC finished their fall season with a 7-8 overall record and a 3-3 mark in the conference. Sophomore Kayla Reidy (Sayville, N.Y.) was named to the First Team All-Skyline, her second straight All-Conference selection.

 

Men's Golf Update

On Monday, October 23rd the Farmingdale State men's golf team won the Skyline Conference Championship at the Bethpage State Park - Red Course for the second straight season and 10th time in school history. The Rams earned the Skyline's automatic bid into the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.

Junior Chris Fischer (Mineola, N.Y.) set the Skyline Championship scoring record with a two-day total of 142 after rounds of 69 and 73 to earn medalist honors and be named Player of the Year. Senior Andrew Goldman (Hauppauge, N.Y.) was the runner-up after shooting 72 and 71 for a total of 143.
