Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. - Senior Matt Burnett (Farmingdale, N.Y.) led the way for Farmingdale State with a team-best 77 at the first round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships at Mission Inn Resort & Club. The Rams opened the tournament on the Las Colinas course and will play El Campeon in tomorrow's second round.
The #1 ranked team in the country Huntingdon College posted a team-total of 293 and hold a three-stroke lead over #2 Texas Tyler, #6 LaGrange College #8 Rhodes College. Christopher Newport (297) is currently in fifth place out of 42 teams.
Individually, Huntingdon's Addison Lamberth (69) leads by one over both David Rabil (Christopher Newport) and Cameron Willis (Whittenberg).
After the second round, the field will be cut to the top-18 teams and top-6 individuals from the non-advancing schools.
The Rams, who currently sit in 39th place, begin Wednesday's second round at 8:20 a.m. off the 10th tee.
