Bellport, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's golf team won and defended their title at the Long Island Intercollegiate Championship hosted by St. Joseph's-LI at Bellport Country Club this afternoon. The Rams held a 5-stroke lead entering today's final round and posted a team total of 311 for a two-day score of 622 and the victory.
Sophomore Joe Itzkowitz (St. James, N.Y.) followed his opening round 76 with a new career-best of 75 for a two-day total of 151 and a tied for second place finish. Junior Andrew Goldman (Hauppauge, N.Y.), who shot 77 yesterday, carded a day two 76 and finished in sixth. Sophomore's Chris Fischer (Mineola, N.Y.) (T7) and Jamie Jones (Rugeley, UK) each shot final round 80's for FSC.
Farmingdale State finished 16 shots ahead of runner-up Adelphi (317-321-638), while St. Joseph's-LI took third place with a two-day total of 640.
Adelphi's Nick Kelapire earned medalist honors (74-73-147) after finishing four strokes ahead of Itzkowitz, Michael Nadeau (St. Joseph's-LI), Ross Moore (Nassau CC) and Pat O'Halloran (Suffolk CC). Nadeau posted the low score of the tournament with a final round 71
The Farmingdale State men's golf team next will travel to Ballston Spa Country Club in Ballston Spa, N.Y. for the Dr. Tim Brown Invitational hosted by Skidmore College on Saturday, April 22nd and Sunday, April 23rd.
