George Cangero Named Head Men's Golf Coach at Farmingdale State

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State athletic department is pleased to announce that George Cangero has been named the Head Men's Golf Coach.

Cangero comes to Farmingdale State after 14 seasons as the Head Golf Coach at St. Joseph's-L.I. He led the Golden Eagles to three Skyline Conference Titles and two appearances in the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.

Before becoming the coach at St. Joseph's, Cangero taught in the Sachem School District for 31 years as a math teacher. He coached the Sachem North golf team from 1999-2004 and during that time won five League Championships, two Suffolk County titles and one Long Island Championship. Cangero also coached two individual players to Suffolk Country Championships while at Sachem North.

Cangero graduated from C.W. Post in 1971 with a Bachelor's Degree in Math Education and received his Master's Degree in Education from C.W. Post in 1974.

Cangero replaces Tom Azzara who coached the team for the past 16 seasons.
