Greensboro, N.C. - The Farmingdale State men's golf team shot an opening round of 306 at the NCAA Division III National Championships held at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C. The Rams played the West Course and are in 24th place after the first round.

Freshman Rich Kelly (Oceanside, N.Y.) recorded the first hole in one at the Division III Championships in over 10 years as he aced the 130 yard par three 15th hole. He went on to birdie the 18th hole leading Farmingdale State with a two-over par 74. Kelly is currently in a tie for 43rd place individually. Freshman Adam Larkin (Bellmore, N.Y.) shot a three-over 75, while junior Chris Arnold (Hauppauge, N.Y.), who birdied three of the first six holes, shot a 76. Freshman John Michael Haining (Hauppauge, N.Y.) and junior Joe Arnold (West Islip, N.Y.) each carded 81's for the Rams.

Oglethorpe University and St. John's (Minn.) lead the tournament after they each shot two-under par as a team. Oglethorpe's Chris Stevenson posted a opening round of 66 as he holds a one stroke lead over Chris Morris of Centre College. The defending National Champion Tain Lee is in third place after carding a three-under par 69.

After tomorrow's second round the field will be cut from 40 to 15 teams. Farmingdale State is in the first wave out on the East Course at 7:00 a.m.
