Men's Golf Fall Season Recap
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's golf team
captured their third consecutive Skyline Conference title this
season with a 30 stroke victory over second place St. Joseph's
College. The Rams earned the Conference's automatic bid to the 2011
NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship to be held at the
Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C. May 10-13.
In the Skyline Championship at Bethpage State Park - Red Course, the Rams posted rounds of 299 and 298 for a two-day total of 697, which is the best in Farmingdale State history. The Rams had all five players in the top-8, led by Freshman Adam Larkin (Bellmore, N.Y.) (74-71), who was the tournament medalist and Skyline Conference Player of the Year. Freshman Rich Kelly (Oceanside, N.Y.) was named Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year after his third place finish in the Championship. Junior Chris Arnold (Hauppauge, N.Y.) and junior Joe Arnold (West Islip, N.Y.) took fourth and fifth place respectively.
At the season opening Skidmore College Fall Invitational,
Farmingdale State placed first in the field of seven teams. Larkin
earned medalist honors in his first collegiate match with a victory
on the second playoff hole. Chris Arnold finished in a tie for
third place with rounds of 75 and 71.
The Rams won the Farmingdale State Skyline Invitational by 20
strokes over runner-up St. Joseph's College. Farmingdale was led by
tournament champion Chris Arnold who shot a two-over par 72 at
Bethpage State Park - Red Course. Larkin finished one stroke behind
Arnold.
In the last tournament before the Skyline Conference Championship, the Rams finished in eighth place at the Hamilton College Fall Invitational. Chris Arnold was named to the All-Tournament Team with an impressive fifth place finish (77-71) out of 88 competitors.
Farmingdale State looks forward to a spring season that begins at Orange County National in Orlando, Fla. The Rams will be participating in four two-day events that consist of the Manhattanville/NYU Spring Invitational at Spook Rock Golf Club, the Long Island Intercollegiate Championship at The Bridge, the Palamountain Invitational at Saratoga State Park and the Farmingdale State Invitational at Bethpage Red.
The Rams earned the Skyline Conference Team Sportsmanship Award and head coach Tom Azzara was named the Conference's Coach of the Year.
