2009-10 Men's Golf Season Recap

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's golf team won their third Skyline Championship in the last four years, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament. The Rams finished in 20th place at the NCAA's which was held at the Hershey Country Club and the Links at Hershey. Farmingdale State made the cut for the first time in the programs history. Senior Masa Maruyama (Yamanashi, Japan/Sundai) finished in a tie for 24th place individually with scores of 74, 75, 76 and 73.

In the Skyline Championship, the Rams placed all five players in the top-7, with Maruyama winning the individual championship after rounds of 77 and 73. Maruyama was named Player of the year in the Skyline Conference.

In the fall, Farmingdale placed third out of 12 teams at the Tim Brown Invitational, with Maruyama placing third individually. The Rams also finished in third place at the Elizabethtown Invitational and were the winners of the Purchase College Invitational, as Jim McLaughlin (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) was medalist with a 72. The Rams won the Farmingdale Skyline Invitational by 17 strokes over second place St. Joseph’s College.

In the spring, the Rams won five of the eight tournaments they entered. Maruyama was the individual champion in five tournaments this spring as well. Farmingdale won the Centenary and Farmingdale Invitationals along with the Jasper Classic, where they finished ahead of four Division I and II schools. At the Jasper Classic, Maruyama shot a four-under par 69, breaking the school record. The team placed second at the Tom Pecora Invitational and the Long Island Intercollegiate Championship. The Rams have seven of their nine players graduating this May.
