Rams Finish in 20th Place at National Championships

Hershey, Penn. The Farmingdale State men’s golf team finished in 20th place at the NCAA Division III National Championships held at The Hershey Country Club East Course and The Hershey Links. The Rams shot a team total of 307 in today’s final round and finished with a four-day total of 1230.

Senior Masa Maruyama (Yamanashi, Japan/Sundai) birdied the final hole this afternoon to shoot a one-over par 73. Maruyama (+11) finished in a tie for 24th place individually. Senior Andrew Schwartz (Commack, N.Y./Commack) was six-over par through eight holes before he holed out for a birdie from 128 yards on the par 5 ninth hole. Schwartz added birdies on 10 and 13 as he posted a 77. Senior Jim McLaughlin (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) shot his lowest round of the championship as he carded a final round 78. Senior Matt Livolsi (Stewart Manor, N.Y./Sewanhaka) shot a 79, despite being eight-over par after the first seven holes. Livolsi played the final 11 holes one-under par.

(1)Methodist University won the team championship by one stroke over second place (3)Guilford College. Methodist finished 29-over par and held off Guilford who shot a tournament low 283 on Friday. 

Claremont’s Tain Lee (-7), who led wire-to-wire, was the 2010 National Champion. He finished three strokes ahead of runner-up Mitchell Fedorka from the University of La Verne.
