- Rams win third Skyline Championship in four years


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's golf team won their third Skyline Championship in the last four years, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championship. This years Tournament will be held at the Hershey Country Club, in Hershey, Pennsylvania on May 11-14, 2010.

Farmingdale placed all five players in the top-7, finishing 33 shots ahead of second place St. Joseph's College at the Skyline Conference Championship. Senior Masanao Maruyama (Yamanashi, Japan) was the co-medalist with a two-day total of 150. Senior Matt Livolsi (Stewart Manor, N.Y.) posted rounds of 72 and 79 for a third place finish, while Jim McLaughlin (Oceanside, N.Y.) finished in fourth, one stroke behind Livolsi. 

At the season opening Tim Brown Invitational, the Rams placed third out of 12 competing teams. Farmingdale shot a two-day total of 601, one stroke behind second place Salem State. Maruyama led the Rams shooting even par for the tournament, finishing in third place individually. The following week, the Rams traveled to Hershey Country Club, site of this years National Championship, for the Elizabethtown College Invitational. Farmingdale placed third as a team, led by Maruyama who posted rounds of 75 and 74, for a sixth place finish.

McLaughlin shot a 72 at the difficult Old Oaks Country Club for a six-stroke victory over teammate Chris Arnold (Hauppague, N.Y.), leading the Rams to a 50 shot win over the Skyline schools. Three days later, McLaughin (74) and Andrew Schwartz (74) (Commack, N.Y.) were co-medalists as Farmingdale won their Skyline Invitational by 17 strokes.

The Rams look forward to a spring season in which they will head to Orange County National Golf Club, in Orlando, Florida for the annual spring trip. Farmingdale will be participating in three two-day events, including Skidmore College's Palamountain Invitational at Saratgoa State Park, the Long Island Intercollegiate at the Bridge and we will be hosting our Invitational at Bethpage State Park - Red Course.
