Maruyama Finishes in a Tie for 22nd at NCAA's


Port St. Lucie, FL. - Junior Masanao Maruyama shot an even par 72 in the final round, finishing in a tie for 22nd place at the men's golf National Championship at the PGA Village, in Port St. Lucie, FL. Maruyama was the first Farmingdale player in school history to make the cut at the NCAA's. He finished the tournament at +9 overall with rounds of 70, 78, 77 and 72. Maruyama started the final round on the back nine and birdied his second hole, moving to one-under par for the day. He added another birdie and two bogies, making the turn at even par. Despite a double bogie on the 14th hole due to a lost ball, Maruyama had two more birdies on the back nine to post a final round 72.

Oglethorpe University took the team championship with a score of 12-over par. University of La Verne finished in second at 16 over and host college Methodist University took third place, seven shots off of the lead. Oglethorpe's Olafur Loftsson and La Verne's Mitchell Fedorka each finished the tournament at three-under par and squared off in a playoff on the 18th hole. Loftsson was victorious and named National Champion with a four on the first playoff hole.

The 2010 National Championship will be held in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
