Port St. Lucie, FL. - Junior Masanao Mauryama shot a two-under par 70 on the Ryder Course in the opening round of the men's golf National Championship. Maruyama bogied the first three holes, but followed with biridies on three of the next four. He played the par 5's in an impressive five-under par, positioning the Rams in 22nd place after the first round. Freshman Chris Arnold shot a two-over par 74 for Farmingdale State and junior Matt Livolsi added a 77.

Host school Methodist University holds a nine stroke lead on the field after posting scores of 67, 70, 71 and 71 for a day one team total of 279. Methodist's Tom Cooper and La Verne's Mitchell Fedorka lead the tournament after shooting rounds of 67 today.

The Rams tee off at 7:00 am tomorrow on the Dye Course tomorrow. The top 23 teams make the team cut after tomorrow, advancing onto the final two rounds Friday and Saturday.
