Men’s Golf Skyline Conference Championship Preview
The Skyline Conference Men's Golf Championship will be held at
Bethpage State Park - Red Course on Sunday, October 26th and
Monday, October 27th. It is a 36-hole event, in which the winner
receives and automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships
being held at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida from May
13-16, 2009.
Farmingdale State won the conference and played at the national
tournament in 2006. The Rams were the first Skyline Conference team
to receive an automatic bid to the NCAA's. Farmingdale would not
repeat as champions in 2007 as they were defeated by St.
Joseph’s College.
The Rams have high expectations in 2008 combining five returning
players, talented transfers and freshmen. Farmingdale is led by
Matt Livolsi who is playing his first season on the team. Livolsi
transferred to Farmingdale State from Nassau Community College,
where his team won two National Championships. Matt was named First
Team JUCO All-American in 2008. To date, Matt's stroke average is
79.2, with team low scores of 73 (+2) and 74 (+3).
Masanao Maruyama returns for his second season since transferring
from Kapiolani Junior College in Hawaii. He played well his rookie
season with a stroke average of 81.2 throughout the Spring 2008
semester. Chris Arnold, a transfer from Coastal Carolina, is
playing his first season on the team. Joe Russo, Larry Hipp and
Donald Wimmer are returning players who have helped lead the team
to their early season success.
The Skyline Conference has five teams participating in the men's
golf championships. St. Joseph's College will be looking to repeat
as champions and are led by junior captain Christopher Manzello.
Chris set the all-time St. Joe's individual scoring record earlier
this season, shooting a one-over par 73 at Bethpage State Park Blue
Course. Manzello and sophomore Charlie Essig are the only two
returning players for St. Joe’s
Competing along with host Farmingdale State and St. Joseph's are
Yeshiva University, Polytechnic University and first year program
SUNY Old Westbury. In 2009, Russell Sage and Purchase College will
be participating in the Skyline Conference Men’s Golf
