Senior Patric Santiago Named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American

Senior four-sport student-athlete at Farmingdale State, Patric Santiago, was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men's At-Large Second Team on Tuesday, June 13th. The Men's At-Large program for the Academic All-America program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling. Patric was among 48 student-athletes around the country in the College Division to make the Men's At-Large Academic All-America Team. Patric is the first student-athlete to receive Academic All-American honors since Farmingdale State joined the NCAA as a Division III program in 2000. He is also the only student-athlete to ever compete in four sports in school history and was Captain of all four sports during his career, including golf, indoor and outdoor track and men's soccer.

Academically, Patric holds a GPA of 3.96. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and the Vice President of our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Patric received the Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence in 2005 (the first student-athlete to receive this prestigious award). He is also a two-time recipient of the Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award, 2005 and 2006, and a two-time Farmingdale State Male Athlete of the Year, 2004 and 2006.

Patric is a resident of Baldwin, NY. He just recently received his Bachelor's Degree in Management Technology from Farmingdale State on May 21st and was a student speaker during the Commencement ceremony.

-The Academic All-America Teams program honors 816 male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA (the College Sports Information Directors of America), a 2,000 member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. To be eligible, a student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.--
