Senior Patric Santiago Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team

Senior four-sport student-athlete at Farmingdale State, Patric Santiago, was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District men's at-large First Team on Thursday, May 25th. The Men's At-Large program for the Academic All-America program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling. All members of the All-District First Team are now eligible to be voted on for the National ballot for All-America, voting begins on Tuesday, May 30th. Patric has had quite an impressive career in his four-year tenure at Farmingdale State. He is the only student-athlete to ever compete in four sports in school history and was Captain of all four sports during his career, including golf, indoor and outdoor track and men's soccer.

Academically, Patric is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and the Vice President of our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Patric received the Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence in 2005 (the first student-athlete to receive this prestigious award). He is also a two-time recipient of the Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award, 2005 and 2006, and a two-time Farmingdale State Male Athlete of the Year, 2004 and 2006.

Athletically, he was the number-one player and captain of the golf team for the past four years, carrying a 1.5 handicap. He shot nine career rounds under 75 and was named the medalist in the last college match of his career at High Bridge Hills Country Club. He took 2nd place in the Farmingdale State Invitational at Bethpage Red with a two-day score of 156. In 2004, he was the low-scorer in all ten rounds he competed in for Farmingdale State. In soccer, a starting goalkeeper for four years, Patric finished his senior year with 109 saves and four shutouts, helping the team to a ranking as one of the most improved teams in Division III in 2005. His junior year in soccer, he ranked 15th in the Nation with an average of eight saves per game. In indoor and outdoor track, he competed in the High Jump and Triple Jump. He finished in 4th place in the Triple Jump this year at the Indoor Track ECAC's and 8th at the Collegiate Track Conference Championship (CTC's) last year. In outdoor, he finished 3rd at the CTC's in the Triple Jump this season, and took 4th place at CTC's during his junior year.

Patric is a resident of Baldwin, NY. He just recently received his Bachelor's Degree in Management Technology from Farmingdale State on May 21st and was a student speaker during the Commencement ceremony.

-The Academic All-America Teams program honors 816 male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America), a 2,000 member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. CoSIDA selects Academic All-America teams in 12 programs: football, womens volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer, mens basketball, womens basketball, baseball, softball, mens track & field/cross country, womens track & field/cross country, mens at-large and womens at-large. A first team, second team and third team are selected in both the University (Division I and I-AA) and College (Division II, III and NAIA) Divisions. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.--
