The men's golf team completed the spring season with a record of 3-3 in dual matches after returning from their annual pre-season trip to Myrtle Beach, SC. The highlight of the spring was the team score of 308 in a 20 stroke victory over FDU-Madison at Bethpage Red. In that match, four players broke 80, led by Rob Ray who shot a team-low 75. Pat Santiago, Jesse White and Charlie Spahr each posted scores in the 70's as Farmingdale had their lowest total in the past five years. The team also finished in fourth place at the Dowling College "Shirley Shootout" attended by nine local Division II and III College's.
Individually, the team was led by Santiago, who finished with a scoring average of 77. Santiago posted scores of 74, 77 and his season-low score of 73 at Bethpage Red in a match against Skyline opponent Kings Point.
The Rams look forward to next year as they will lose only one player from this year's team.Apr 27, 2004
Despite Sophomore Patric Santiago's (Baldwin/Baldwin, NY) season low score of 73, Farmingdale fell to Conference opponent Kings Point at Bethpage State Park. Santiago's three-over par 73 earned him the medalist, as Kings Point defeated the Rams by two strokes. Junior Jesse White (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) and freshman Rob Ray (Rocky Point/Rocky Point, NY) each shot an 83 for Farmingdale. Freshman Rob Ray was the medalist with a five over-par 75 leading Farmingdale past FDU-Madison in a non-conference dual match. Junior Jesse White and Sophomore Patric Santiago both shot 77 and Sophomore Charlie Spahr carded a 79 for the Rams. Ray and White's scores were career best's. The Men's Golf Team recently returned from their annual spring trip to Myrtle Beach, SC. The Rams played four rounds of golf and also got a chance to practice every day in 65 degree weather. For the second consecutive year the team played one of their rounds at St. James Plantation, located in Southport, NC. At St. James, the team were guests of former Athletic Director and Golf Coach Bruce Robbins, who retired in North Carolina in 2000. After the round, Bruce and his wife Sally treated the team, as well as former Head Soccer Coach Bo Wernersbach, to a barbecue at their house, located in the golf community. Sophomore Patric Santiago (Baldwin/Baldwin, NY) shot a four over par 74 leading Farmingdale over Nassau CC in the Rams season opening match. Farmingdale (326) defeated Nassau CC (331) and lost to host Suffolk CC (314) in cold and rainy conditions. Santiago's 74 tied him for low score in the match. Sophomore Charlie Spahr (Farmingdale/Farmingdale, NY) posted an 83 and freshman Rob Ray (Rocky Point/Rocky Point, NY) shot an 84 for the Rams.
