Game 2: Farmingdale State - 9, Manhattanville - 7 (F/10)

PURCHASE, N.Y. | Farmingdale State senior right fielder Bobby Pollock (Manorville, N.Y.) hit the second cycle in program history to lead FSC to a 9-7 extra-innings, game two win at Manhattanville College on Sunday afternoon. The FSC baseball team earned a doubleheader split as they dropped game one, 8-3. Farmingdale State now stands at 9-9 overall and 2-3 in Skyline play, while the Valiants are 6-9, 1-1.

In the first game, the Rams tallied 13 hits but were limited to just three runs on a two-run homer by Pollock and an RBI single by junior designated hitter Daniel Deutsch (Northport, N.Y.).

Senior catcher Louis Annunziata (Howard Beach, N.Y.) went 3-for-3 at the plate, while sophomore shortstop Chris McGuggart (Bethpage, N.Y.), freshman center fielder Ryan Wasserman (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) and sophomore second baseman Patrick Dallas (Patchogue, N.Y.) had two hits apiece.

Farmingdale State quickly fell behind 3-0 in game two but was able to tie the game in the top of the fourth inning on a three-run home run by Pollock.

Manhattanville regained a two-run lead, 5-3, with a pair of runs in the fifth on a single and sacrifice fly.

Pollock registered the single in the top of the sixth, but the Rams were unable to score.

In the seventh, Wasserman led off with a base hit and quickly scored on a Deutsch double. With two outs later in the inning, Annunziata reached on a throwing error, which allowed Deutsch to score and knot the game at 5-5. Pollock batted next and ripped a triple to right to score Annunziata and give FSC a 6-5 advantage.

The Valiants evened the score at 6-6 in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single by center fielder Brian Bornkamp.

Pollock completed the cycle in the top of the ninth as he hit an RBI double to score junior first baseman Jordan Lambert (Plainview, N.Y.). Manhattanville forced extra-innings with a two-out RBI single in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 7-7.

The Rams clinched the win with two runs in the top of the tenth inning. Freshman second baseman Nick Pompei (Manorville, N.Y.) led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior Daniel Molina (East Meadow, N.Y.) and scored on a double by McGuggart. Senior third baseman Nolan White (Miller Place, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single to score McGuggart and put FSC in front, 9-7.

Senior Kevin Primm (Massapequa, N.Y.) (Sv, 1) entered for the bottom of the tenth and after allowing a leadoff single, forced a double play and struck out Bornkamp swinging to secure the save and 9-7 victory for Farmingdale State.

Pollock finished the game 4-for-5 with five runs batted in. Each of his extra-base hits either tied the game or gave FSC the lead. Pollock is just the second student-athlete in program history to hit for the cycle as Nick Barone was the first to accomplish the feat on May 3rd, 2005 against Staten Island.

Deutsch recorded a pair of hits, an RBI and two runs scored and Lambert tallied two hits and two runs scored. McGuggart had two hits, a double, one RBI and one run scored, while Wasserman finished with two hits and a run scored.

Senior pitcher Stephen Clancy (Mineola, N.Y.) (W, 1-2) earned the victory as he tossed an inning without allowing a run.

The FSC baseball team next will travel to Maimonides Park, the home of the Brooklyn Cyclones, to play John Jay in a single game on Wednesday, April 5th at 6:30 p.m.
