Baseball Opens Conference Play vs. Mount Saint Vincent

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State baseball team opened its Skyline Conference schedule with a doubleheader against the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Sunday afternoon. The Rams earned a 1-0 win in the first game but Mount Saint Vincent emerged victorious in the second game by a 5-1 margin.

After senior pitchers Stephen Clancy (Mineola, N.Y. - 7.0 IP, 5 K, 2 H) and Andrew Geiger (7.0 IP, 6 K, 5 H) shut down the offenses through the first seven innings, the lone run of the game came in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Freshman center fielder Ryan Wasserman (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) walked and moved to third on a hit-and-run base hit by sophomore second baseman Chris McGuggart (Bethpage, N.Y.). The next batter was senior right fielder Bobby Pollock (Manorville, N.Y.), who hit a sacrifice fly to left to bring home Wasserman.

Senior Johnny Dougherty (W, 3-2, 2.0 IP, 2 K) earned win as he did not allow a run in the final two innings.

The Dolphins scored in the top of the first inning of the second game, as Zimmerman recorded an RBI single.

MSV extended their lead in the top of the third on a Pierre single before freshman center fielder Danny DiNorcia hit a solo homerun in the top of the fourth to take a 3-0 advantage.

The Dolphins led 4-0 in the fifth, before Pollock tallied an RBI single to score McGuggart and cut the deficit to three.

Mount Saint Vincent scored a run on a wild pitch in the sixth to regain a four-run lead.

Junior pitcher Sean Kennedy (W, 3-1) did not allow a run across the final two innings as the Dolphins went on for the 5-1 win.

Wasserman, Pollock, Molina and junior designated hitter Daniel Deutsch (Northport, N.Y.) tallied two hits apiece.

DiNorcia, Pierre, Zimmerman and freshman first baseman Drew Knight each had two hits in the win for MSV.

The Rams will next host non-conference opponent Lehman College for a seven-inning doubleheader on Wednesday, March 29 at 4:00 p.m.
