Ramapo Comes-From-Behind to Defeat FSC

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State baseball team hosted non-conference opponent Ramapo College on Monday afternoon and fell, 18-9. The Rams led 9-4 heading into the seventh inning before the Roadrunners scored 14 unanswered runs.

Ramapo (2-1) jumped ahead with a three-run top of the first inning behind RBI hits from designated hitter Sean Donohue and left fielder Matt Lalomia.

FSC (1-2) freshman shortstop Ryan Wasserman (Miller Place, N.Y.) led off the bottom of the first with a leadoff bunt single and sophomore second baseman Chris McGuggart (Bethpage, N.Y.) followed with a two-run homer to left field to cut the deficit to 3-2.

The Roadrunners extended their lead to 4-2 on another Lalomia RBI double in the third inning but Farmingdale State responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 6-4 advantage. With runners on first and third and one out, junior first baseman Jordan Lambert (Plainview, N.Y.) recorded an RBI single before junior left fielder Daniel Deutsch (Northport, N.Y.) hit an RBI double to right field to tie the score at 4-4. Senior center fielder Bobby Pollock (Manorville, N.Y.) followed with a two-run double to right field to give FSC the 6-4 lead.

The Rams increased their lead in the fifth after senior third baseman Nolan White (Miller Place, N.Y.) reached on an error and scored on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, McGuggart tallied an RBI single to bring home sophomore catcher Matthew Flood (Islip, N.Y.) and go in front, 8-4.

In the bottom of the fifth, Pollock led off with a walk and quickly stole both second and third base. Three batters later, he scored on a wild pitch to put Farmingdale State ahead, 9-4.

Ramapo came storming back in the seventh inning with nine runs on six hits, capped off by a two-run triple by shortstop Tyler Guadagno, to take a 13-9 lead.

The Roadrunners added five more runs in the top of the eighth as they went on for the 18-9 victory.

McGuggart finished 3-for-4 on the day with the home run, three runs batted in and two runs scored. Pollock went 3-for-3 with a walk, double, two runs batted in, two stolen bases and a run scored, while Lambert and Deutsch each had a hit, one RBI and one run scored.

The Rams next will travel to Florida for the RussMatt Invitational. FSC will play seven games on their annual spring trip with their first one against Northland College on Friday, March 10th at 2:00 p.m.
