FSC Drops DH to Old Westbury on Senior Day

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The FSC baseball team lost in a doubleheader against conference opponent Old Westbury this afternoon. The Rams fell 6-2 in game one before dropping a 5-4 decision in the second game. Despite the losses, Farmingdale State has earned the #2 seed for the Skyline Conference Championship after finishing 13-7 and earned a bye into the four-team, double-elimination tournament starting on Friday. 

Today was senior day at FSC as Michael Iacobellis (Seaford, N.Y.), Tony Figliuolo (Glen Cove, N.Y.), Thomas Messina (New Hyde Park, N.Y.), Stephen Clancy (Mineola, N.Y.), Vincent Napolitano (Bellmore, N.Y.) and Joe Marino (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) were each honored prior to first pitch.

In the first inning of game one, Old Westbury junior catcher Charlie Eisele (Levittown, N.Y.) hit a two-out, two-run single to put the Panthers ahead.

The Rams got one back in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly by sophomore first baseman Jordan Lambert (Plainview, N.Y.) to score Napolitano.

The Panthers (12-22, 8-12 Skyline) led 3-1 and used a solo home run from junior right fielder Patrick Schriffen (East Setauket, N.Y.) and a two-run home run by junior designated hitter Jacob Ford (Dallas, Texas) to go in front by five.

Farmingdale State was held to just one run in the bottom of the seventh as they fell, 6-2.

Napolitano was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Lambert notched a pair of hits and an RBI. Figliuolo reached base twice with a pair of walks and junior right fielder Bobby Pollock (Manorville, N.Y.) had a double and a walk in the loss.

FSC trailed 2-0 after the top of the first inning of game two but scored three times in the bottom half to take a 3-2 advantage. 

Napolitano led off with a walk and later scored on an RBI single from Lambert. Two batters later, Pollock hit a two-run home run, his third of the season, off the foul pole in right field to give Farmingdale State the one-run lead.

Old Westbury tied the score at 3-3 in the fifth after a run-scoring hit-by-pitch.

The Panthers went ahead 4-3 in the fourth on a two-out RBI single by senior shortstop Shaun Kaminski (Babylon, N.Y.).

Farmingdale State trailed 5-3 heading into the bottom of the ninth and scored on a sacrifice fly by junior Louis Annunziata (Howard Beach, N.Y.). With a runner on first and one out, OW forced a pair of fly outs to right field to secure the 5-4 victory.

Pollock led the Rams offensively with two hits, including a home run, a walk and two runs batted in.

The Rams have earned a bye for the First Round of the Skyline Conference Championship and will compete in the four-team, double-elimination portion of the Championship which begins on Friday, May 6th. Further details will be added as the championship field is finalized.
