Baseball Splits Doubleheader at St. Joseph's-Brooklyn

Brooklyn, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team split a Skyline Conference doubleheader at St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon. FSC took game one by a score of 9-4, but fell in the second game, 7-3. The Rams now sit at 17-11 overall and 9-5 in Skyline competition, while SJC-BK is 5-23, 3-11 Skyline.

The Rams got on the board in the top of the first of game one after senior center fielder Vincent Napolitano (Bellmore, N.Y.) led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by freshman second baseman Patrick Dallas (Patchogue, N.Y.), and scored on an RBI single from sophomore first baseman Jordan Lambert (Plainview, N.Y.).

Farmingdale State extended their lead to 3-0 in the second as Napolitano notched an RBI single to bring home senior designated hitter Michael Iacobellis (Seaford, N.Y.). Napolitano scored on an error later in the inning to put FSC in front by three.

In the third, the Bears committed a trio of errors which allowed three Farmingdale State runs to score.

Lambert extended the FSC advantage to 7-0 in the fourth on another RBI single to drive in Napolitano.

The Rams led 9-2 in the seventh and allowed a pair of SJC-BK runs but held on for the 9-4 victory.

Lambert led the way with four hits in four at-bats, two runs batted in, two stolen bases and one run scored. Napolitano tallied three hits, three runs and one run batted in, while Iacobellis had two triples and three runs scored. Junior shortstop Nolan White (Miller Place, N.Y.) added two hits and two RBI's.

Freshman pitcher Danny Wolf (Massapequa, N.Y.) (W, 1-1) picked up the win after throwing 4.1 innings with five strikeouts.

The Rams trailed 1-0 in the fourth inning of the second game but tied the score after junior right fielder Bobby Pollock (Manorville, N.Y.) singled and Lambert notched an RBI double.

St. Joseph's-Brooklyn regained the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by freshman catcher Mike Medina Jr. (Selden, N.Y.).

The Bears scored two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to go in front, 6-1.

Farmingdale State was down 7-2 in the top of the ninth and quickly loaded the bases with none out. SJC-BK freshman pitcher Justin Conaty (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was able to force a pop out, sacrifice fly and ground out to clinch the 7-3 victory.

Lambert notched two more hits in game two with a run scored and one RBI, while Napolitano had two hits and one run batted in. 

Bears sophomore pitcher Andrew Monda (Centereach, N.Y.; W, 3-3) tossed eight innings with nine strikeouts to earn the win.

The Rams are back in action tomorrow, Sunday, April 24th, as they travel to Purchase College for a Skyline Conference doubleheader starting at 11:00 a.m.
