FSC Sweeps John Jay in Non-Conference DH

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The FSC baseball team picked up a pair of non-conference victories over John Jay this afternoon. The Rams won the first game, 5-2, and followed with a convincing 15-5 decision in the second game to complete the sweep. Farmingdale State now stands at 16-10 overall, while the Bloodhounds dropped to 5-26.

The Rams pushed across a run in the bottom of the first inning of game one after senior center fielder Vincent Napolitano (Bellmore, N.Y.) singled, stole second and scored on an RBI single from sophomore first baseman Jordan Lambert (Plainview, N.Y.).

Still leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third, FSC junior third baseman Nolan White (Miller Place, N.Y.) led off with a solo home run over the left field fence to give the Rams a two-run edge.

Later in the inning, freshman shortstop Patrick Dallas (Patchogue, N.Y.) singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. Junior right fielder Bobby Pollock (Manorville, N.Y.) followed with an RBI double to bring home Dallas and put Farmingdale State on top, 3-0.

After John Jay freshman catcher David Michalski (Flushing, N.Y.) and Napolitano each hit a solo home run in the fifth inning, FSC added a run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from sophomore third baseman Richard Apollo Jr. (Seaford, N.Y.) to go up, 5-1.

Farmingdale State held the Bloodhounds to just one run in the seventh as they went on for the 5-2 victory.

Napolitano finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Dallas had two hits and a run scored. Pollock, Lambert and White notched a hit and one run batted in, while freshman left fielder Justin DiMartino (Bethpage, N.Y.) recorded a hit and two walks.

Junior pitcher Christian Esperon (West Islip, N.Y.) (W, 1-0) threw six innings, allowed just two runs, and struck out seven batters for his first win of the season.

Trailing 1-0 in the first inning of the second game, the Rams scored five runs on RBI's from Tony Figliuolo (Glen Cove, N.Y.), Louis Annunziata (Howard Beach, N.Y.), White, Jonathan Morales (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and Daniel Molina (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) to go ahead, 5-1.

FSC held a 9-4 advantage after three innings and scored five in the fourth to take a 14-4 lead. Morales notched a two-run double before back-to-back RBI walks from freshman right fielder Kyle Dorset (Freeport, N.Y.) and Figliuolo. Farmingdale State's fifth run came on a sacrifice fly by senior third baseman Michael Iacobellis (Seaford, N.Y.).

Each team scored one run over the final three innings as FSC went on for the 15-5 game two win.

Figliuolo finished 3-for-4 with a walk, three runs batted in, two runs scored and a double, while White went 3-for-5 with a triple, three runs and two RBI's. Iacobellis and Annunziata each had two hits, an RBI and one run scored. Dorset recorded two hits, two runs batted in and two runs scored and Morales added a hit and three runs batted in.

Junior pitcher Tyler Loft (Nesconset, N.Y.) (W, 2-2) picked up the win after tossing two scoreless innings of relief.

The Rams next return to Skyline Conference action when they travel to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 23rd at noon.
