Game 2: Manhattanville - 4, Farmingdale State - 2

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team split a Skyline Conference doubleheader with Manhattanville on Saturday. The Rams won the first game, 7-1, behind a complete game from senior pitcher Stephen Clancy (Mineola, N.Y.), but fell in game two, 4-2.

The Rams (8-9, 3-3 Skyline) took a 1-0 lead in game one as sophomore catcher Aidan Hutchins (Wading River, N.Y.) tallied an RBI single in the bottom of the third.

After scoring an unearned run in the fourth, the Rams scored five times in the fifth inning to go in front, 7-0. Senior center fielder Vincent Napolitano (Bellmore, N.Y.) tallied an RBI single before a ground out by Bobby Pollock (Manorville, N.Y.) brought in Hutchins to give the Rams a four-run advantage.

The next batter, sophomore third baseman Richard Apollo Jr. (Seaford, N.Y.) recorded a two-run double to put FSC in front, 6-0.

Farmingdale State's seventh run came on an RBI single by freshman left fielder Justin DiMartino (Bethpage, N.Y.) which scored Apollo Jr.

Clancy (W, 4-1) allowed just one run in the final two innings to pick up the complete game victory. He struck out seven batters and forced the Valiants (8-9, 5-3 Skyline) into three double plays in his seven innings of work.

Apollo Jr. finished with two hits, two runs batted in and two runs scored, while Hutchins and freshman designated hitter Danny Wolf (Massapequa, N.Y.) each went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

The Rams took a 1-0 advantage in the fourth inning of game two after Apollo Jr. reached on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly by Wolf.

Manhattanville answered in the top of the fifth as freshman right fielder Frank Delgado (West Nyack, N.Y.) hit a two-run triple to put the Valiants ahead. Delgado scored later in the inning to go in front, 3-1.

Hutchins led off the bottom of the fifth with a triple and quickly scored on a sacrifice fly by Napolitano in the next at-bat. After Patrick Dallas (Patchogue, N.Y.) hit a single and moved to second, Manhattanville forced a ground out as the game remained, 3-2.

The Valiants added a run in the sixth and kept FSC off the board in the final three innings as they went on for the 4-2 win.

Sophomore first baseman Jordan Lambert (Plainview, N.Y.) had two hits and two stolen bases, while Pollock and DiMartino had a hit and a walk each.

Delgado led Manhattanville with two hits, two RBI's and a run scored in the win.

Farmingdale State returns to action tomorrow, Monday, April 4th when they travel to Mount Saint Mary College for a conference doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
