Napolitano Homers as Rams Sweep Mount Saint Vincent

Bronx, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team traveled to Roberto Clemente Park on Sunday afternoon and swept Skyline Conference opponent Mount Saint Vincent in a doubleheader. The Rams earned a 5-1 victory in game one and followed with a 2-1 win in the second game.

In game one, senior center fielder Vincent Napolitano (Bellmore, N.Y.) led off with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Patrick Dallas (Patchogue, N.Y.). After moving to third on a passed ball, Napolitano came around to score on a Bobby Pollock (Manorville, N.Y.) RBI double to right center.

The Rams (7-8, 2-2) took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a one-out RBI single up the middle by Pollock which scored Napolitano.

In the top of the fourth, FSC increased the advantage to 3-0 on a sac fly to left by freshman shortstop Nolan White (Miller Place, N.Y.).

Leading 3-1 entering the fifth, Napolitano led off the inning with a solo home run to center to put Farmingdale State back up by three.

The final run of the game came in the top of the sixth on an RBI double to right center by freshman catcher Aidan Hutchins (Wading River, N.Y.) as the Rams went on for the 5-1 victory.

Napolitano was 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and an RBI, while Pollock was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. Sophomore pitcher Thomas Messina (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) (2-0) earned the win after allowing one run in four innings, while senior Joe Marino (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) tossed three perfect innings to record his first save of the season.

In game two, FSC struck first in the top of the second when they scored an unearned run.

In the bottom of the fifth, Mount Saint Vincent (10-8, 1-3) evened the score at 1-1 on a sacrifice fly by senior center fielder Jake Blinstrub (Peachtree, Ga.) which scored Engers Marte (Bronx, N.Y.).

Dallas led off the top of the sixth with a single to shortstop and advanced to second on a Pollock walk. After a Jordan Lambert (Plainview, N.Y.) sacrifice bunt, a throwing error allowed Dallas to score as the Rams went ahead, 2-1.

FSC junior pitcher Stephen Clancy (Mineola, N.Y.) held the Dolphins to one hit over the final three innings to seal the 2-1 win and sweep. Clancy improved to 3-1 on the year after throwing 5.2 innings of relief, allowing one run on three hits with eight strikeouts.

Dallas was 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored in the game two victory.

Farmingdale State will next travel to play Baruch in a single 9-inning game on Tuesday, March 29th at 3:00 p.m.
