FSC Baseball Spring Break Update - Rams Earn Run-Rule Win

Auburndale, Fla. - The Farmingdale State baseball team has played three games at the RussMatt Invitational in Auburndale, Florida. The Rams earned one win over Anderson (Ind.) and now sit at 3-4 on the season.

FSC has three more games remaining on the Florida schedule as they play Lancaster Bible in a 7-inning doubleheader on Monday at 9:30 a.m. and a single 9-inning game against Keystone on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.

Friday, March 11th

In their first game on Friday, the Rams were edged out by Fontbonne, 10-8. 

Farmingdale State pushed across just one run over the first seven innings as they trailed 9-1. In the bottom of the eighth, FSC outfielders Kyle Dorset (Freeport, N.Y.) and Michael Iacobellis (Seaford, N.Y.) drew walks to open the inning. After a fly out, a pair of RBI ground outs by freshman left fielder Justin DiMartino (Bethpage, N.Y.) and freshman first baseman Patrick Dallas (Patchogue, N.Y.) cut the Rams deficit to six.

FSC was down 10-3 heading into the bottom of the ninth and used a sacrifice fly and a run-scoring walk to close within five, 10-5, with two outs.

With the bases still loaded, Dallas hit a single which allowed all three runners to score and make it a 10-8 game. The Griffins forced a ground out in the next at-bat as they held on for the 10-8 victory.

Dallas had a game-high three runs batted in, while DiMartino had two RBI's. Sophomore designated hitter Tony Figliuolo (Glen Cove, N.Y.) notched a pair of hits in the loss.

In game two of the day for FSC, Salve Regina allowed just one hit as they went on for a 9-0 victory.

Sunday, March 13th

After Farmingdale State's games were postponed on Wednesday, March 12th, a single nine-inning game against Anderson (Ind.) was added for Sunday, March 13th.

The Rams earned a 10-0, run-rule victory over the Ravens. FSC led 4-0 in the fourth before freshman shortstop Nolan White (Miller Place, N.Y.) hit the first homerun of his career to increase the advantage to five. Freshman first baseman Richard Apollo Jr. (Seaford, N.Y.) batted next and drew a walk. After a sacrifice bunt, freshman second baseman Daniel Molina (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to go ahead, 6-0.

Farmingdale State took the 6-0 lead into the bottom of the eighth inning and scored four runs to clinch the 10-0, run-rule win. 

Junior pitcher Stephen Clancy (Mineola, N.Y.) tossed six shutout innings, allowing just four hits and striking out six, to improve to 2-0 on the season. Sophomore pitcher Thomas Messina (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) threw two innings in relief without allowing a hit.
